Kate’s blue Issa engagement dress is probably the first dress of hers that most women set out to copy. Whether you’re going to work, out to dinner, or announcing your impending marriage to the future king of England, this is a classic style that you can use for years to come.
But frankly, I don’t love the real deal. I wore the green version of Kate’s Issa dress to a wedding back in 2012 (thanks to Rent the Runway) and felt very “meh” about it. The sleeves were weirdly short, and it’s not like I have crazy long arms. The material was also way shinier than I expected. Like
At the time, you could often find the Issa dress on sites like Rue La La or Gilt for a deep discount. I thought I’d end up buying the blue version of the dress after my Rent the Runway experience. But instead, I went and spent $50 on a jersey material blue wrap dress from Modcloth. Which I wear ALL THE TIME (including to the royal wedding). It’s flattering, comfortable, can be worn on a regular day around the house, and it didn’t cost $600.
With autumn approaching it will soon be time to pack away your sundresses and pull out your three-quarter and long-sleeve options. And what better than a classic blue wrap dress to get you through the fall season?
I wear my Modcloth dress so often that I wish I’d bought a backup one. But it’s a 5-year-old style and I wasn’t surprised when I checked the other day and saw they don’t sell it anymore.
I went on the hunt for another option, and luckily, I found loads of great dresses under $100 – including plus and maternity options. You get a blue wrap dress, you get a blue wrap dress, EVERYONE GETS A BLUE WRAP DRESS!
Vivicastle 3/4 Sleeve Faux Wrap Dress
This is the dress I ended up buying. It’s a steal on Amazon (it’s also on Prime – my fave!) and made of a stretchy, comfy poly/spandex material. Plus, they sell it in 40 colors and patterns! I purchased the royal blue but the navy pictured above would be a closer match for Kate’s dress.
It’s a little on the lower cut side but not enough that I feel like I need a cami. I like this dress so much I’m planning on ordering another color for the fall. Maybe the polka dot? It’s too hot to wear right now but I’m sure you’ll see this on my Instagram in the coming months.
Because the material is more casual, this is a great everyday dress. Like my Modcloth dress, y
Wrap Style Dress
This dress from Nordstrom is probably the closest to Kate’s Issa style in terms of the neckline/waist style. It’s priced at $108 and also offered in three other colors, including a lovely green that looks like the green Issa dress I wore.
Mango Crossed Design Dress
This navy wrap dress from Mango is on sale for $39.99 and a nice option for summer with its looser short sleeves.

This dress from Shein is a timeless look and available in sizes up to 5XL – how nice would it be for an autumn wedding with a fun fascinator?
Charter Club Faux Wrap Dress
I really like this dress from Macy’s with its flattering ruching/ruffle detail at the side. Bonus: it’s currently on sale for $59.62 through September 3 (regular price $79.50). It’s also offered in petite sizing and the royal blue color is on sale for just $39.99!
Dorothy Perkins Maternity Ruched Wrap Dress
Finally, here’s a maternity option for those of you who are expecting. Maternity wear can be expensive, but this one is only $44 and would work well for any dressier occasions you have this autumn/winter!
