September is my favorite month of the year, and not just because it’s my birthday month. I love the back-to-school, new beginning, new season feeling that September brings. Plus, with the summer holidays over, we get to celebrate the return of regular royal engagements!
Warning: I was on a major green kick this month. Lots of green ahead!
Lace Wedding Looks
For my cousin’s late September wedding I chose two royally-inspired looks. It was black tie, but I wasn’t going to sit around in a gown all day as it was a long daytime church ceremony. (In fact, their ceremony was modeled after Will and Kate’s!). I originally planned to wear a navy lace replikate dress from Topshop that I’ve had for years, but realized it now has some pulls and was starting to show wear.
I found this tea-length lace dress from Dresstells on Amazon and it was exactly what I wanted without spending a fortune. I’ve purchased other items from this brand and they’re always great quality.
I love the shape of the skirt and the length! It’s a light and comfortable dress but I could’ve easily paired it with a wrap or coat if it had been colder. It comes in 10 colors so if navy isn’t your fave, you have tons of other options. The burgundy one is a decent match for Kate’s Marchesa Notte dress she wore in 2017 to see the musical 42nd Street. I actually ordered the dress in burgundy first, but it didn’t flatter my coloring.
The reception look I wore was inspired by Kate’s green Temperley gown. Believe it or not, I paid $17 on Amazon for this gown! It seriously looks comparable to $200+ lace dresses I’ve seen at Nordstrom. Sadly, the seller I purchased it from a few months ago no longer carries the dress. But I did some searching and found the same style for you – just a little bit more expensive, and offered in black, purple, and burgundy at the moment (no green).
I loved my dress so much I purchased it in black as well, and it looks exactly like Kate’s DVF gown. In total I spent less than $50 on both gowns! I’ve received so many compliments on this dress – a definite budget shopping win.
Starcrossed Boutique Fascinator
It’s hard to find a reasonably-priced fascinator with silk flowers, twists and other details that the more upscale hats feature … but I found an amazing Etsy shop! I’ve been eyeing up the fascinators from Starcrossed Boutique on Etsy for a while and I finally pulled the trigger and bought one. The fascinator is absolutely gorgeous in person and I felt very royal!
Each piece from her shop is handmade in England and the vast majority are under $50. If you’ve ever looked at the high-end milliners that the royals use, you’re talking more like hundreds to thousands for a hat/fascinator. I will absolutely order from this Etsy shop again.
Replikate/Diana Sapphire Earrings
My mom bought me these beautiful earrings for my birthday. I had them on my Amazon wishlist and was excited to wear them to the wedding! I wasn’t sure what the quality would be like, but the earrings are so pretty in person. Plus they’re sterling silver so I’m sure they’ll last a long time! They would make a great bridesmaid earring, too.
Meghan’s Northern Ireland Tour Outfit
If you follow me on Instagram you know I wore this Meghan lookalike outfit for my birthday. I did a brief feature in the Royally Obsessed With… post for September, but wanted to include the info here as well.
I absolutely loved the skirt and sweater Meghan wore to visit Northern Ireland, but not the price tag. (Her sweater alone was over a grand!). I actually didn’t have a basic cream sweater in my closet, so I found an affordable one on Amazon. It’s part of their Amazon Essentials line and it’s exactly what I was looking for.
And this green Kate Kasin trumpet skirt is so great for fall. I liked the idea of the skirt but was convinced it would look ridiculous on me since I’m petite. After trying it on I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the skirt that I wore it around all day instead of the quick try-on I’d planned. The skirt runs true to size and the material has a nice stretch to it. Although I’m on the shorter side, I don’t feel like it’s too long (which is a shocker because I need to hem most things).
Eshakti Floral Replikate
I meant to include this dress in the August roundup! It’s a great copy for Kate’s Chelsea Flower Show dress.
I’ve heard about the Eshakti website over the years and was always intrigued. Basically, all of their dresses are customizable. I love the idea that you can choose your sleeve length, neckline, and skirt length to make the piece uniquely yours. Most of their dresses have pockets, too! They even tailor the dress to your specific height. No more alterations = a dream for me. The dress is lined and beautifully made. I’m really pleased with my first purchase from them and I’ll be back for more!
This print is currently in their sale, and also offered in a sheath dress, a top, and a skirt. The dress on sale (under $50) is slightly different than mine, but you can customize it with short sleeves to get the same look.
Old Navy Kitty Spencer-Inspired Dresses
If you recall in my August roundup, I bought a dress on Amazon that resembled the one Lady Kitty Spencer wore to Harry and Meghan’s wedding. I ended up returning that one, but when I was looking for my son’s school clothes I came across a pretty similar green floral print at Old Navy.
I feel like Old Navy is a hit or miss store for me – I go through phases where I don’t shop there at all for months, and then suddenly they’ll have a ton of cute things.
Anyway, both of the dresses I ordered in the green print have been on heavy rotation for the past few weeks! Very comfy and easy to wear, and casual enough for everyday errands and the school run. You can find the swing dress I’m wearing in the photo above here and the flutter sleeve wrap dress I also purchased here. Use code THANKYOU through this Sunday 9/30 to save 30% off!
Pink replikate gown
Last but not least, when I was browsing on the Next website I spotted this gown and thought it gave similar vibes to Kate’s pink Jenny Packham. This plus-size replikate is selling quickly – at the time of posting this it’s available in 3 sizes – so grab this one fast if you have a special occasion coming up!
Style of the Month
Kate’s Sebago Bala boat shoes are a perfect style staple for early fall days. Simply adding a boat shoe instead of a sneaker can add a little more polish to any outfit!
Whether you’re wearing a casual dress like Martha, a cozy Canada-tour-inspired sweatshirt like Brigitte, or a classic denim and stripe top combo like most of the rest of us are wearing (such a Kate outfit!), these shoes are an easy way to bring that royal look into your everyday life.
Thanks to the beautiful ladies who participated in this month’s collage!
Lots of fun posts are ahead for October – and we’ve got Princess Eugenie’s wedding!
