Royal watchers were quite spoiled this week as both Meghan and Kate carried out multiple engagements. Who doesn’t love a Double Duchess Day?
Since we have so many outfits to cover, I’ll be creating separate posts for the two duchesses. First, let’s take a look at some pieces I found to get Meg’s look on a non-royal budget:
Black and tan at Smart Works
On January 10 Meghan headed to her first official visit to one of her patronages, visiting Smart Works. I love the mission of this organization, which helps women get into the workforce by providing them with interview-ready clothing and accessories, as well as job skills. Dress for Success is a similar group that has branches in the United States and many other countries, and I highly recommend donating your gently used workwear to either organization.
Now to the fashion: Meghan wore a basic short-sleeve black dress called the Eliza dress by maternity brand Hatch ($218). If you’re looking for something similar that’s under $25, check out the black Isabel Maternity t-shirt dress at Target.
For those of us who aren’t pregnant, here are some options:
Meghan’s sold-out Oscar de la Renta coat went for a casual $2,990, but Express has a nice option with its soft drape trench coat, available in camel or a soft blush pink for a more commoner-friendly price of $148.
Bold Colors in Birkenhead
Many of us have wished Meg would wear more bright colors, and boy did she deliver during Monday’s visit to several organizations in Birkenhead! She paired a purple dress from Aritizia with a red Sentaler coat and I personally LOVED this bright combo.
On a sidenote, my friend Lauren was lucky enough to meet Meghan that day and give her a gift for Baby Sussex. She said Meghan couldn’t have been nicer! Thanks to Lauren for letting me share this photo.
Frankly, these aren’t colors I ever would have thought to wear together but it inspired me to create my own purple and red ensemble. Here’s my take on the look with some older items I’ve had in my closet for years! I used to have a red wrap coat and donated it since it no longer fit, so I grabbed a red cardigan instead.
Although my dress is at least five years old and no longer available, I found two picks for an affordable long-sleeve purple dress like Meg’s:
I’m so in love with Sentaler’s coats, but they’re way out of my price range (unless I ever score one for a deal on eBay!). If you’d rather spend $150 vs almost $1,500, check out two red coat options:
Left: Halogen trench coat from Nordstrom ($149) Right: Michael Kors plus-size belted coat from Macy’s (currently 50% off, plus another $20 off and free shipping with code LETSGO making it $190 off the original $340 price!)
Sleek neutrals at Mayhew
On Wednesday Meghan kicked off a two-engagement day by making her first visit to animal charity Mayhew, another one of her new patronages. As a fellow animal lover I’m very excited for her involvement there, and she seemed to have a blast interacting with the dogs.
Meghan looked amazing in a super budget-conscious beige sweater dress from H&M’s maternity range, coming in at just $34.99. Naturally, it’s now sold out in Meghan’s shade, but available in a dark gray (and on sale!) for $17.99 here.
If you’re looking for a non-maternity option, I found some similar looks on Amazon:
Glam in Navy at Cirque du Soleil
Later that evening, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the premiere of Cirque de Soleil’s “Totem” at Royal Albert Hall to benefit Prince Harry’s Sentebale charity. Meghan wore a showstopping navy sequin gown by Roland Mouret that had me itching to pull out the #marklesparkle myself. Although maaaaaaybe not for $5,595!
Let’s ogle some lower-priced options instead:
Left: MACloth 3/4 sleeve sequin dress from Amazon (available in plus sizes, too). Right: TFNC long sleeve sequin dress from Asos (original $103, now only $41 PLUS an extra 10% off sale with code ASOSSALEPLZ). I just ordered this one for an upcoming event!
Which of Meghan’s outfits was your fave? I’m going with the red and purple look because it was so fun and unexpected. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
