January always feels like such a long month and although it’s normally fairly low-key on the royal front, it’s actually been quite busy! Both Kate and Meghan had plenty of engagements and some fantastic new outfits (if you missed my Meghan style post, you can read it here).
For many of us, January is also a low-spend period after the holidays (and the associated bills!) so this is going to be a shorter Royal Style Roundup than usual. The good news is I’m bringing back the Style of the Month after being on hiatus since October!
Meghan’s wedding tiara
Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau Tiara is such a special piece and was perfect for the royal wedding. I wanted to add a copy to my collection without spending a ton of money so I did some research and came across this tiara. I’d never ordered from Aliexpress before, but for a mere $7.99 I decided to take the risk (I also ordered a headband that hasn’t arrived yet). My expectations couldn’t have been lower but the tiara is actually beautiful in person!
It adds some sparkle to the display in my London phonebooth cabinet and for under $10 I’m definitely pleased. Just a heads up that the tiara took about two weeks to arrive, so give yourself plenty of time if you order something and need it for a specific event.
I really liked the green Beulah dress Kate wore to her recent engagement at Family Action, but it costs more than $700 for what’s ultimately a pretty, but fairly basic dress. I’d actually been looking for a casual long-sleeve green dress and bought this one on Amazon after seeing it on another blog. It’s an easy and comfortable everyday piece and has POCKETS!
Like I’ve said in the past, I enjoy getting inspiration from royal fashion and using it to create my own looks that work for my lifestyle. This loose, stretchy (and machine washable) dress is a much better option for a busy mom who doesn’t go to fancy engagements and events all the time!
On a sidenote, I also ordered a pair of black opaque tights to wear with the dress and I’m very happy with them since I hate when tights are too sheer and have that ’80s pantyhose feel.
Do you remember the diamond oak leaf brooch Kate has worn on several occasions? It’s so gorgeous and a piece I’ve always admired, but let’s face it – I’m not going out and buying a diamond brooch with pearl acorns.
After she wore it again on Christmas day I set out to find a reasonably close version and came across this brooch on Amazon. I’m pretty sure I’ll never find one with pearl acorns, faux or otherwise, but I’m enjoying mine all the same! #bringingbroochesback
Style of the Month
Last year the Cambridges went on a tour of Sweden and Norway and Kate debuted a new winter hat from Barts. Called the Jasmin beanie, it’s partially fleece-lined and very warm, perfect for a snowy Norweigan outing. Sadly, Barts does not ship to the United States but a few outdoor/sport retailers carry their products online. I purchased mine from Surfdome on mega-sale last year and it’s on heavy rotation here with the recent freezing cold weather.
The hat is also available in other colors if you don’t want white (you can find a few different shades on Amazon). It’s proven to be a very useful winter item for royal fashion fans like the beautiful ladies below!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the first collage of 2019!
Two special shout-outs this month. First one is to Lauren (bottom left) who wore her Barts beanie to brave the cold temps waiting to meet Meghan and Harry in Birkenhead earlier this month. She got to chat with Meghan and even made it on TV. A nice woman she met in the crowd took the picture above! And lastly, Susannah (middle right) who wore her hat to camp out on The Long Walk at the royal wedding last May. I can attest to how cold it was overnight and early in the morning that day so it must have come in handy! Funny story: We actually met while waiting in line at a Zara store in London the week after the wedding – I was buying the dress Kate had been pictured in at the polo and she asked me about it!
I hope all of my U.S. readers are staying warm in this crazy Polar Vortex. Grab your Kate hats and bundle up!
